February 1st as National Hijab Day

Philippine legistilative assembly approve the draft of law that’s  make February 1st as National Hijab Day. This decision was taken to promote a deeper understanding of Muslim practices, as well as tolerance of other religions in the Philippines.

Congress unanimously approved the draft of law, which has yet to become law, on Tuesday, January 26, with 203 lawmakers voting for the move.

Delegation of the Mindanao Children’s party, Amihilda Sangcopan, one of the initiators of the draft of law, thanked all Philippine lawmakers for passing the law and asked Senate members to support the next steps.

“This law seeks to promote a greater understanding among non-Muslims about the practice and value of wearing the headscarf as an act of decency and dignity for Muslim women and encourages Muslim and non-Muslim women to benefit from wearing it,” he said. News, Monday, February 1, 2021
